The drive
The drive: the Overseas Highway
From MIA, the route runs south on Florida's Turnpike to US-1 in Florida City, then about 22 miles to Key Largo, according to the Florida Keys' official tourism site. From there, US-1 becomes the Overseas Highway, which the tourism council describes as 113 miles from Key Largo to Key West with 42 bridges, including the Seven Mile Bridge at Marathon. Green mile markers count down from 127 near Florida City to 0 in Key West.
The tourism council notes that the Overseas Highway is the main road through the Keys and traffic can build at peak travel times, so plan ahead. The Miami Herald reports there are no tolls on US-1 itself, the road is two lanes for long stretches with limited passing, and the speed limit doesn't go above 55 mph. Florida's Turnpike and Card Sound Road use cashless tolls. With Artisan, required trip costs are already in your price.

| Islamorada | MM 90–63 |
| Marathon | MM 63–40 |
| Lower Keys | MM 40–4 |
