AirTrain

Step 1: The AirTrain (every train and subway route starts here)

There's no subway or train station inside the JFK terminals. The AirTrain links every terminal to two stations.

The AirTrain is free between terminals. You pay the $8.75 fare when you exit at Jamaica or Howard Beach. Tap a contactless card or phone, or use an OMNY card. Children under 5 ride free.

  1. Jamaica Station

For the LIRR and the E, J and Z subway lines. This is the best choice for most of Manhattan.

  2. Howard Beach Station

For the A subway line to Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn.

LIRR

JFK to Manhattan by train: the LIRR

From Jamaica, take a westbound Long Island Rail Road train. It's the fastest way into Manhattan without a car.

The total is $14 off-peak or $16 peak, including the AirTrain. Buy tickets in the MTA TrainTime app or from station machines. The LIRR leg takes about 20 minutes.

  3. Congestion charges

$2.50 congestion surcharge below 96th Street and a $0.75 congestion toll for trips in the zone at or below 60th Street, subject to the listed highway exemptions.

    Any tolls, plus tip.

  5. Airport access fee

Pickups at JFK also carry a $2 airport access fee.

Private car

JFK to Manhattan by private car

A prebooked private car coordinates your pickup before arrival. Your chauffeur tracks your flight, waits 60 minutes after domestic and 90 after international landings, and takes you to your door with no train changes or taxi line. Artisan’s vehicle-class minimums are $135 for an Executive Sedan and $155 for a Suburban. These are not fixed JFK-to-Manhattan fares; enter your terminal and destination for the exact trip price.

For most for-hire car-service pickups at Terminals 5 and 7, JFK directs travelers to the Howard Beach lot via free AirTrain. Its advisory retains terminal-front pickup for eligible passengers with disabilities or accessibility needs. Follow current airport signs and your confirmed instructions; do not assume every pickup is at the terminal curb.
